Description

Myeongryundang Lecture Hall of the Miryanghyanggyo Local Confucian School is well preserved compared to other hyanggyo buildings in Gyeongsangnam-do Province. The original building was destroyed by fire during the Imjin War (1592-1598) and rebuilt in 1618. The current structure has a plane layout with the hall in the center flanked by small rooms, like many other large lecture halls. As its seventeenth-century bird wing-shaped bracket supporting eaves have been preserved, and the technique used to reinforce its large-sized overall structure is rarely seen among its counterparts in Gyeongsangnam-do Province, it is considered a valuable material by scholars interested in Myeongryundang lecture halls of the mid-Joseon Period.
