Description
Myeongryundang Lecture Hall of the Gyeongjuhyanggyo Local Confucian School was remodeled in 1614 and repaired in the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries. It is a 5 kan* by 3 kan structure with a gable roof, with two high columns and a truss of five crossbeams. It is the largest remaining building of its kind, excluding guesthouse-type halls such as Seonggyungwan and Naju Hyanggyo Myeongryundang. The surviving records on the building include a record about its repair. The hall displays some of the characteristic features of seventeenth-century Joseon architecture, including its trimmed foundation stones and cornerstones, the vine pattern engraved on the bird wing-shaped brackets supporting the eaves, and the composition of the roof structure. Its size and class correspond to Daeseongjeon Hall (where sacrificial rites were performed for Confucius and the great Confucian scholars; Treasure No. 1727) of the same Confucian school.
