Description
Imgoseowon Confucian Academy was established in 1553 (eighth year of the reign of King Myeongjong of the Joseon Dynasty) and was reconstructed in 1603 (36th year of King Seonjo’s reign). The approximately 200 ancient books kept in Imgoseowon were published between 1553 and the late Joseon Period; among them, 25 books in 10 types were collectively designated as Treasure. They include the explanation for the new phonetic system, the Korean translation of the Analects of Confucius, and some books related to this Confucian academy. These books are regarded as a valuable material since they show the organization and management of the academy as well as the social situation between the middle and end of the Joseon Dynasty.
