Description

Daebuljeong yeorae mirinsujeungyouije bosalmanhaeng suneungeomgyeong (Shurangama Sutra) is also called Daebuljeong suneungeomgyeong or Neungeomgyeong for short. The main idea of this Buddhist sutra emphasizes the importance of personal practices, not just simple understanding of Buddhist scriptures. Buddhist monks are required to study this book while disciplining themselves. This book was translated by Banjamilje of the Tang Dynasty, with a commentary by Gyehwan of the Song Dynasty. Out of the entire 10 volumes in 5 books, this book consists of volumes 9-10. It measures 33.4 cm long and 20.8 cm wide. This book was written by Sin Chong at the order of King Taejo of the Joseon Dynasty in the 1st year of his reign (1401). It was engraved on wood block and printed on mulberry paper and is the same copy as Shurangama Sutra, Volumes 1-10 (Treasure No. 759). A noteworthy fact is that this book was written and published at the order of the royal court during the early Joseon Dynasty when Buddhism was suppressed. It has great value since it was published at King Taejo’s order.
