Description
This book is a collection of letters written to An Cheo-sun (1492-1534) by his friends and colleagues who were killed or sent to exile by their political opponents before or after the year Gimyo (1519) when the purge of Neo-Confucian literati took place. As the 9th descendant of An Hyang who introduced Neo-Confucianism during the Goryeo Dynasty, An Cheo-sun assumed several government positions over the years such as Yemungwan geomyeol (Diarist of the Office of Royal Decrees), Hongmungwan baksa (Counselor of Special Advisers), and Magistrate of Gurye. This book contains 39 letters from 12 colleagues of An Cheo-sun while he was alive over a period of 15 years (1517-1531) during the reign of King Jungjong of the Joseon Dynasty. Consisting of 3-72 pages, it has an introductory statement by Han Jun-gyeom in the beginning of this book and an epilogue by Jo Seong-gyo who was a descendant of Jo Gwang-jo. As a collection of writings by famous figures who were related to the political incident that happened during the year Gimyo, it provides valuable information in studying the historical incident as well as the style of paintings and calligraphic works during the early Joseon Dynasty.
