Description
Jachi tonggam (Comprehensive Mirror for Aid in Government) is a comprehensive historical record compiled by Sima Guang (1019-1086), a historian and scholar of the Song Dynasty of China. According to the royal order of King Sejong, about forty civil officials of Joseon, including Yun Hoe, Gwon Do, Seol Sun, Kim Mal, and Yu Ui-son to name but a few, edited and added annotations to several important books written by Sima Guang prior to their publication in the form of 294 books in 1436 (the 18th year of King Sejong’s reign). Though this book includes three odd volumes from the entire set, it has been preserved virtually intact. Volumes 236-238 from the same book were designated as Treasure No. 1281-1 (kept at the National Museum of Korea), while two books containing volumes 131-135 and 246-250 were collectively designated as Treasure No. 1281-2 (kept at the Seoul Museum of History). Published by scholars from the Hall of the Worthies, it is a precious work that offers diverse information about printing and publication during the early Joseon Period.
