Description

This epigraph was found during an excavation survey of dolmens in nearby Cheongyong-ri and Jangcheon-ri, Seoho-myeon. A total of 118 Chinese characters are inscribed in 21 lines. The characters were inscribed in 1344 (the 5th year of the reign of King Chungsuk of Goryeo), 43 years ahead of its cousin (Treasure No. 614) in Sacheon, Gyeongnam. This one was made 9 years later than the one originally located in Jeongju, Pyeongbuk, North Korea but is the oldest existing one of its kind in South Korea. Well-preserved, the epigraph contains information such as when and why it was made, where wood incense is buried to pray for blessing, who buried it, and for whom.
