Description

This image of thin lines is carved on a rock called Janggunbawi (Army General Rock). The bodhisattva image wears a round crown inscribed with patterns. Three lines are depicted on the neck. It wears inner clothes inscribed with diagonal floral patterns, with the robe hung on both shoulders. The wrinkles flowing down from the chest have an elegant appearance, and the toes are exquisitely portrayed. The image features a well-proportioned body as well as square face and scrolling vine patterns inscribed on the cylinder-shaped crown. In particular, the patterned cylinder-shaped crown and the robe hung on both shoulders are characteristics of a stone image of the early Goryeo Period (918-1392). Despite the shallowly (5mm) engraved lines, the image has been preserved well, showing excellent techniques and expressions.
