Description
This is a celadon prunus vase made in mid Goryeo, 34.6 cm in height, 5.6 cm in diameter at the mouth and 13.5 cm in diameter at the bottom. The peony pattern is inlaid mainly using jinsa (Korean red pigment). The shoulder is plump, the waist curve is smooth and the small mouth is finished very gracefully. On the inside of the four-petal lotus flower brim, chrysanthemum and vine are inlaid in black and white. On the three surfaces of the body a large peony with a red tip is inlaid in black and white. Around the base is a lightning pattern. On the upper part a lotus flower brim is inlaid in white, with a weed engraved in each petal. It is a special characteristic of pure celadon prunus vases of the first half of the 12th century to have an encircling lotus flower pattern around the lower section of all 3 parts. The red pigment at the tip of the peony petals adds a special dance-like vitality. A transparent gray-blue glaze is used, and the vase has a quiet gloss and ice cracks on almost the whole surface.
