Description

Relics (12 items in 9 types) found along with this sarira reliquary when the stone pagoda (National Treasure No. 48) was dismantled for repair in 1970 are those dating back to the 10th or 11th Century. Thus, they are presumed to have been put into the pagoda at the time of its construction. The relics include gilt-bronze silver standing Buddha image, a bronze outer casket for sarira, a silver inner casket for sarira, a crystal sarira bottle, a gilt-bronze rectangular incense casket, a bronze mirror, a sutra scroll, an incense pouch, a sheet of silk wrapping cloth, etc. They are valuable materials for those studying the metal handicraft and Buddhist philosophy of the early Goryeo Period (918-1392).
