Description
Overall, the object has a round body. The duck head functions as the spout, with the handle at the rear end looking like the two feet of a duck stuck together. On the part that corresponds to the back of a duck is a small lotus leaf with a twig. A lotus pip-shaped lid is placed to close the hole made at the center of the lotus leaf. The spout, the handle, and the back hole all display esthetic quality, and their shapes are based on good ideas. Generally, it has transparent, light green color and misty luster. The color displayed by the grayish blue source soil through the light-green layer of glaze is a color that can be found in best-quality celadon. Delicate textures of duck feathers are portrayed well by means of depressed and relief engraving and black and white inlaying. The ornament on the lid, the duck head, and the handle are in harmony with each other. Made with carefully selected source soil and glaze during the prime (i.e., 12th Century) of the Goryeo Period (918-1392), the celadon features creative shape and gorgeous, exquisite ornamental patterns.
