Description

The two nearby places have nine pieces of Buddha and bodhisattva images carved in relief on natural rock. The higher place has a seated Buddha image carved on natural rock measuring 3.5m (H) by 8m (W). The lower place has one seated Buddha image, five bodhisattva images, and two other images, all of which have been badly weathered. Based on the extent of their weathering, they are believed to have been made earlier than many others of their kind. The location, which borders what used to be a territory of the Silla Dynasty (57 BC - 935 AD) and the Goguryeo Dynasty (circa 37 BC - 668 AD), makes researchers assume that these rock carvings were influenced by the Buddha statue sculpturing skills of both dynasties. Thus, they serve as valuable materials for the relevant researchers.
