In general, a stone brick pagoda is built by piling bricks made of stones cut into the shape of bricks. It is unknown how big is the temple where the pagoda used to be located since the area has been transformed into farmland. This huge seven-story stone brick pagoda with overwhelming appearance stands on the farmland in Jangnak-dong, Jecheon. This pagoda is made of gray-black clay-slate stone bricks except the first layer of the stylobate made of natural stone, on which the seven-story main body is set up. The main body of the pagoda, containing sarira or Buddhist scripture, has granite pillars on each of the four corners. On each of the south and north sides of the body, the niche enshrining the sarira is fitted with a door, but that of the north is now gone. The south and east sides of the first story and the roof stone of the second story are heavily damaged. The roof stones covering the core stones of the main body are made of bricks and are in tiered style on both upper and bottom sides. Their eaves are short and horizontal. The four edges of the roof stones have holes to hang the wind-bell. Of the upper part of the pagoda, only the finial base except the top ornament remains. The middle of the finial bases has a round hole whose edge is engraved with a lotus flower pattern. During the restoration work performed in 1967, a bronze piece engraved with a flower pattern was found from the upper part of the roof stone of the seventh story and is assumed to have been part of the finial of the pagoda. There are traces of the surface of the pagoda having been plastered in places. This pagoda is presumed to have been built during the late Unified Silla Period, judging from the style of construction and composition method of stones.
