Description

This Wooden Seated Amitabha, the Buddha of the Western Paradise, of Jaunsa Temple was found to contain varied Relics including a document on gold coating done in 1388. Hence it can be assumed the statue was made earlier. Naturally carved, the image looks gentle and beautiful with appropriate body proportions. It shares a similar style with other wooden images of seated Amitabha at Gaeunsa, Suguksa and Bongnimsa Temples, generally believed to have been made in the late 12th century.
