Description
This royal edict of appointment as Jeonggyeongbuin (investiture with the title of nobility) was issued to Yi Sun-sin’s wife Bang (a member of the Sangju Clan) following his death at the Battle of Noryang on December 16, 1598, and posthumous promotion to the position of Second Vice Premier. Under the Gyeongguk Daejeon (National Code of the Joseon Dynasty), jeonggyeongbuin was the highest title of nobility that could be awarded to a woman whose husband had served as a first-rank civil or military official.
