Description
These bowls can be categorized into three kinds: a silver cup, a silver bowl, and a golden bowl. They were found in the north mound of Hwangnamdaechong Tomb, tumulus No. 98, Hwangnam-dong, Gyeongju. They are relics of the Silla Period. The silver cup is 8 cm in height, with a diameter of 10 cm. The silver bowl is 5.5 cm high, 10.5 cm in diameter, and the gold bowl is 4.5 cm high, 11 cm in diameter. There are eight silver cups in total. The cups are hemispheric and they have low heels. The rims are curved outwards. The lids are also hemispheric. In the center of the lids there are 3 leaf-shaped fulcrums with a loop shaped knob over them. There are four silver bowls, also with low heels and are hemispheric. The rims are likewise curved outwards. The four gold bowls have similar shapes to the silver bowls. Gyeongju Tumulus No. 98 in Hwangnam-dong is a tumulus of Silla that has come down from the Three Kingdoms period. It is located in the Tumuli Park in and around the Tomb of King Michu. It was named Hwangnam Great Tumulus after investigations in 1973 and 1975. It has the shape of a small gourd, its two mounds being connected north and south. It is the largest of the Silla mounds. Its diameter is 80m east-west and 120m north-south. The south mound is 23 m high, and the north mound is 22 m high. The inside of the tumulus is made by piling up stones over the coffin, which is characteristic of tombs made in the Silla era.
