This is a tall standing rock-carved Buddha standing at the foot of Bukhansan Mountain. It was carved by making a shallow cavity in the rock of the valley at the entrance to Samcheonsa Temple site. The half-opened eyes have long tails reaching the ears, and a quiet smile from the puckered-up mouth gives an impression of mercy and a deep Buddhist spirit. The robe that the Buddha wears is carved in a somewhat heavy way. The strap knot like a butterfly tied under the chest exhibits a new style. There is a large rectangular hole to the left and right of the shoulders such that there seems there was a piece of wooden furniture on the cliff in front of the Buddha. The mandorla and pedestal are carved with protruded lines. Generally it is simple and lacking in detailed expression, but the parts harmonize well with each other and are well-balanced, making it a representative example of the Buddha cliff image in early Goryeo.
