Description
This copy of Yogacarabhumi Sastra (Discourse on the Stages of Yogic Practice) was printed with the second Tripitaka Koreana blocks, around the time of their carving in 1247 (the 34th year of the reign of King Gojong during the Goryeo Dynasty). It appears to be of the same version as Treasure No. 969 (Volume 64) and Treasure No. 972 (Volume 55) and is the only extant copy of the 42nd volume of this book. This print has, meanwhile, received attention from Korean linguistic researchers in recent years, for the gugyeol (oral formula) markers added to the text, written in a fine brush. The quality of printing is excellent in this book, printed with the Tripitaka Koreana woodblocks in Haeinsa Temple, more or less immediately after their completion. One of the very few prints from the Goryeo Period, created using the Tripitaka Koreana woodblocks in Haeinsa Temple, this scroll book is also comparatively well-conserved, and was, therefore, deemed worthy of the designation as a government-protected cultural heritage object.
