Description
This short calligraphic work, a note to a painting, was written by Yi Gwang-sa (1705-1777, pen-name: Wongyo), an illustrious calligrapher of the 18th century during the Joseon Dynasty. Written in the summer of 1746 (the 22nd year of the reign of King Yeongjo) when he was 42, this work is perfectly showcases Yi Gwang-sa’s signature style, although it is based on Wang Xizhi’s semi-cursive style of script. The piece is a great example of Yi’s style in his mid-years, and has been well preserved despite the loss of two characters from the beginning of the scroll. The note added by someone called Unwon, written in the year of Musin, adds further value to this work.
