Description
Seollimbohun is a collection of Buddhist monks’ teachings about the true ways and virtues published by Cheongnyongseonsa Temple in Chungju in 1378 (the 4th year of the reign of King U of Goryeo). Another copy of this woodblock-printed book, designated as Treasure No. 700, is kept at the Leeum, Samsung Museum of Art. It is a precious material about the development of Buddhist philosophy and Zen Buddhism in late Goryeo and Joseon. It also contains many facts related to its publication, and sheds light on the books published by a local temple toward the end of Goryeo Period. The record includes information about the monks who took part in its publication and the work related to the epilogue, and explains how it came to be published in Korea. The book is considered to be the most exquisite extant copy of all the books printed on woodblocks during the Goryeo Period.
