Description

Donginjimun sayuk (Anthology of Poems of Silla and Goryeo Literati) was edited by Choe Hae (1287-1340), a prominent literary figure during the Goryeo Dynasty. The collection of Choe’s literary works, Jolgocheonbaek, includes Donginmun-seo (Introduction of Donginmun) and Donginsaryuk-seo (Introduction of Donginsaryuk). According to the Donginmunseo, he compiled a collection of Korean poems and sorted poems, prose, and four-six pair couplets under the titles of Ochil, Cheonbaek, and Saryuk, respectively. Donginsaryukseo describes the cherye (government officials’ etiquette) separately about Saryuk. However, the extant copy of Donginjimun contains mainly Saryuk rather than Ochil and Cheonbaek. This edition of Donginjimun sayuk, an anthology of poems of Silla and Goryeo literati, is 19.7 ㎝ in width and 31.8 ㎝ in length. As the end part of volume 7 includes the imprint ‘Jinjumok gaepan’, it is clear that this edition was first printed in Jinju. In addition, judging from the fact that the printing style used for Jolgocheonbaek is identical to that of this book, in which the names of the persons who engraved the books are carved as Jeong (Jeong Yeon) and Go (Go Cheong-yeol), it reveals the original publication date of Jolgocheonbaek, and confirms that it was printed by the same people. This edition is regarded as a valuable material for studies and research on publishing styles, methods of carving woodblocks, and literature between the Goryeo and Silla periods.
