Description
This is an ice storehouse built in granite dating from mid-Joseon. Although the date of its construction is not precisely known, the Stone Ice Storage of Yeongsan is said, in Yeoji doseo (Atlas and Geography of Korea) and the town chronicle from late Joseon, to have been built by the Changnyeong Magistrate Yun Yeo-il. The stone ice storage, round in overall shape, is higher in altitude at the level of the entrance and becomes gradually lower toward the back. The inside with walls in roughly-hewn stone blocks, is rectangular in plan. Behind the granite building, there used to be a brook. Although a dry brook at present, it used to be a large body of water due to a dike constructed at its head. Slightly smaller than other ice storehouses, the Stone Ice Storage in Yeongsan is built in the same way as others.
