Description

Copying six parts of Mongsanhwasang beobeoyangnok, sermons of the Yuan Buddhist Monk Mongsan, Monk Naong of the Goryeo era produced this book putting it together with one of his own sermons. Mongsan kept in contact with Goryeo monks, especially Hyegamguksa and Bogamguksa. He had an important influence on Korean Buddhism after the late Goryeo era. During the Joseon Dynasty, Monk Hyegakjonja translated them into Korean and his name appears on its front page. It is a woodblock-printed book, measuring 30.9cm in length and 22cm in width. A mention that this book was published in the 3rd year of the reign King Seongjong (1472) of the Joseon Dynasty is given in the epilogue written by Kim Suon, a noted writer of the Joseon Dynasty. Some parts of the book were printed in the 13th year of King Sejo's reign (1467) and others were printed in the 3rd year of King Seongjong's reign (1472) by order of Insudaebi, the mother of King Seongjong. Its paper is of rather poor quality, but the book is well preserved and the printing technique is sophisticated.
