Description

The Clay Sakyamuni Buddha Triad of Cheongnyongsa Temple, Anseong, was made during the early 17th century when the production of large clay Buddha statues was prevalent. According to the letter of invocation found inside the main Buddha at the center of this triad, this sculpture was produced in 1603, with a Buddhist monk named Gwangwon acting as the leading craftsman. A list of the craftsmen who participated in the production of this triad was written in cinnabar on blue silk, and, interestingly, the six participants include an artist named Yi Geum-jeong, who was not a monk.
