Description

The Forest of Gems in the Garden of Law (Fayuan Zhulin) is an encyclopedic Buddhist text compiled by a Tang monk named Daoshi (?-683). It comprises a vast collection of Buddhist materials which are highly regarded for their reliability and wide-ranging subject matter. This particular edition, the 82nd of the 100 volumes constituting the entire work, was printed from the first edition of the Tripitaka Koreana, and focuses on the perfection of ethics and patience among the six perfections (or Paramitas). It is widely regarded as a valuable source of knowledge on the first Koreana Tripitaka in that it was originally contained in Sinpyeon jejonggyojang chongnok (Newly Compiled Comprehensive Record of the Canonical Works of All Schools) published by State Preceptor Uicheon in 1087, and was added later to the first edition of the Tripitaka Koreana.
