Description

This album of landscape paintings by Jeong Seon (1676-1759), titled Pungakdocheop, or “Collected Paintings of Pungaksan Mountain,” is known to contain the earliest surviving works produced by the artist, which is why art historians believe that the paintings in this album can play an important role in understanding his later works, now referred to by the term “Jingyeong Landscapes.” As the works by a young, aspiring artist, the paintings are full of energy and enthusiasm, reflecting the emotional fullness created by his first encounter with Korea’s most scenic mountain.
