Description
Compiled by Gwon Mun-hae (1534-1591) in 1589 (22nd year of King Seonjo’s reign), Daedong unbu gunok is a kind of encyclopedia that is composed of manuscripts and 667 printing woodblocks. The woodblocks are for the first edition of this encyclopedia, and the manuscripts include 27 books of 3 types with different structure and formation. These woodblocks were made from King Sunjo’s reign (1800-1834) to King Heonjong’s reign (1834-1849), but they are regarded as the greatest both in quantity and in quality as an individual’s work created before the Japanese Invasion in 1592. The condition of their preservation is very good as well. The manuscripts are not complete, but they are valuable as the basic material for publishing Daedong unbu gunok and were transferred for more than 400 years.
