This silver-gilt cup and stand in floral form is generally regarded as one of the finest and most beautiful examples of its type produced during the Goryeo period (918-1392). Both cup and stand exhibit outstanding artistic features including their aesthetically refined forms and elaborately decorated surfaces, effectively demonstrating the high standards achieved by Goryeo artisans in the techniques of repoussé and chasing. Their formal and technical similarities with the cups and stands of Goryeo period introduced in the book, Seonhwa bongsa goryeo dogyeong (Illustrated Account of the Xuanhe Embassy to Goryeo, or Xuanhe Fengshi Gaoli Tujing), written by the Song diplomat Xu Jing in 1123, and with some celadon items of the twelfth century, suggest that they were made in the twelfth century when the cultural achievements of Goryeo aristocrats reached their zenith.
