Description

These three white porcelain jars with an unadorned surface were excavated at the same site in Pimatgol, Jongno in downtown Seoul. The jars are highly valued not only because they are fine examples of the high-quality white porcelain works produced at a government-run ceramic kiln during the early Joseon period (i.e. between the fifteenth and sixteenth century), but also because the site of their excavation is clearly documented. Their comparative rarity and consummate artistry, along with the wealth of documentary evidence concerning their discovery, are more than sufficient support for the jars’ inscription on the national cultural heritage list.
