Description

Joseon gyeonggukjeon (Administrative Code of Joseon) is a book compiled in 1394 by Jeong Do-jeon (1342-1398), a noted scholar-official who played a key role in the foundation of the Joseon Dynasty (1392-1910), as a basic tool of governance for the dynasty's early rulers. As its content is based on the ""six-ministry system"" established in the ancient ritual text, Jurye (The Rites of Zhou, or Zhouli), the book became a matrix for other books published later on, including Gyeongje yukjeon (Six Codes of Administration), Yukjeon deungnok (Six Code Register) and, most notably, Gyeongguk daejeon (National Code), which remained the basis for the politics of the dynasty for more than 500 years. As the only extant copy of the early Joseon edition, the book is regarded as a valuable resource for the study of book publishing and the legal codes of the dynasty in its early phase.
