Description

This celadon ewer, whose body is shaped like a bamboo shoot, is widely regarded as one of the finest celadon vessels of its type remaining today. The ewer exhibits a perfect harmony between its elegant shape, elaborate decoration, and the remarkably serene color of its evenly coated glaze. While Goryeo potters loved producing figurative celadon wares inspired by beautiful natural objects, only a very limited number of surviving vessels exhibit this particular bamboo shoot. The rare, elegant shape of the body, the clean surface free of crazing, the attractive glaze luster, and meticulous craftsmanship make the ewer one of the great masterpieces of Goryeo figurative celadon.
