This is a collection of distinguished monks’ interpretations of the Shurangama Sutra (The Sutra of the Heroic One) compiled by a monk named Weize of the Yuan Dynasty of China. The use of Eulhae metal type made in 1455 (the 1st year of the reign of King Sejo) and the stamped impression“Proofread” indicate that it was published by the Gangyeongdogam, a government agency in charge of publication. Most of the other Sutra of the Heroic One published in Korea containing interpretations of the Shurangama Sutra (The Sutra of the Heroic One) concern the interpretation by the monk Jiehuan of the Song Dynasty of China. However, this complete set of the collection printed in Eulhae metal type is very rare. This particular version, a complete set of three books composed of ten chapters, has been preserved in good condition. It is considered worthy of designation as a national cultural heritage (Treasure) by scholars of Buddhist literature of the early Joseon Period and the history of publishing and printing.
