Description
Beopgyeseongbeom suryukseunghoe sujaeeuigwe is a collection of Buddhist protocols including the origins, ceremonies and procedures of universal dedication rituals. Based on the epilogue written by Kim Suon, it is clearly a woodblock-printed book published for a ritual prayer for the eternal repose of the spirits of the Joseon kings Sejo, Yejong, and Deokjong, in which various members of the royal family, including Queen Jeonghui (1418-1483), the wife of King Sejo, played the lead role in 1470 (the 1st year of King the reign of Seongjong). So far, some twenty-two books published by the royal family or national temples during the reign of King Seongjong (1479-1494) have been designated as national cultural heritages. Among these, three Buddhist books were published in 1470, the same year in which Beopgyeseongbeom suryukseunghoe sujaeeuigwe was published. The book is highly valuable as it is the oldest woodblock-printed book about the Suryukjae rite, which was performed for the living creatures of land and water.
