Description
The fine details of the brushstrokes and the style of this painting, A Panoramic View of Inner Pungaksan Mountain (Pungaknaesan Chongnamdo), suggest that it was produced in the 1740s when Jeong Seon (1676-1759) was in his 60s or 70s. It differs markedly from other depictions of Geumgangsan (a.k.a. Pungaksan) in that it represents the entire inner view of the mountain in green, yellow, red, and white. The painting is also notable for its elaborate detail and the marking of the mountain’s major attractions, surrounding landscapes and architectural structures with their names. The painting’s aesthetic brilliance and creative style often lead to comparisons with his other masterpiece, A Complete View of Geumgang (Geumgang Jeondo), designated as National Treasure No. 217.
