Description
The Printing Woodblocks for Saddharmapundarika Sutra(The Lotus Sutra) were re-engraved at Cheongwansa Temple at Jijesan Mountain, Jangheung, Jeollabuk-do province, based on the Lotus Sutra printed with Gabinja metal type in 1561 (the 16th year of the reign of King Myeongjong), and is currently kept at Daeheungsa Temple in Haenam. Although one plate (Chapters 15-16 of Part 3) is missing, it is in a good overall state of preservation. It is said that various versions of the Lotus Sutra printed with Gabinja metal type were published at Jabiryeongsa Temple in Hwanghae-do (1493), Muryangsa Temple in Chungcheong-do (1493), and Sinheungsa Temple in Gyeongsang-do, (1545), etc., but most of them have been lost. The Wooden Plates for Lotus Sutra was designated as a national cultural heritage (Treasure) in recognition of its status as the oldest woodblock-printed edition of the Lotus Sutra.
