Description
The Printing Woodblocks for Gyecho simhag inmun (Admonitions for the Beginners in Learning) was made at Gaesimsa Temple, Gayasan Mountain in Chungcheongnam-do in 1584 (the 17th year of the reign of King Seonjo). Gyecho Simhak Humanities was written by a Buddhist monk named Jinul in 1205, and concerns the protocols and rules to be observed by neophytes of Buddhist asceticism. The complete set of eight plates has been preserved in good condition. The book is composed of thirty-two chapters, with two chapters per page. It was made ten years earlier than its counterpart (printed from woodblocks in 1603) kept at Ssanggyesa Temple in Hadong, Gyeongsangnam-do, and has been designated as a national cultural heritage in recognition of its status as the oldest extant complete set of woodblocks among those related to the Gyecho Simhak Humanities.
