Description
This gilt-bronze seated Buddha was made in the Goryeo Period and has been enshrined in Sinamsa Temple. This temple is said to have been built when Gu Ye, a 3rd-generation descendant of Neungseong Gu’s Clan, started to live in Gagyo-ri under the rule of King Chungsuk of the Goryeo Dynasty. The whole figure of the Buddha statue is similar to that of Janggoksa Temple but is more voluminous and majestic. The solemn face wears a warm smile. The top of the body is large, and the U shape of the chest corresponds to the Buddha statue line of Janggoksa Temple. The bottom of the seated body is wide and imposing, with the knees well-harmonized with the expression of the top of the body. The simple line and the regular thickness of clothes are similar to those of the front Buddha statue, but the hems hanging down from the left sleeve to the knees are different. The robe draped over both shoulders is almost the same as that of the Buddha statue of Janggoksa Temple in terms of the large half-moon-like hem of the right shoulder, crescent shape of the right shoulder, collar expression, and hem curving out from the two arms.
