Description
This royal certificate was presented to Yi Sukgi (1429-1489/aka Lord Yeonan) upon his designation as a meritorious retainer in recognition of his support for Prince Yi Hyeol’s accession to the throne as King Seongjong. It was issued in June 1472, the 3rd year of the reign of King Seongjong. The royal message gives some idea of the country’s political situation in connection with the coronation of King Seongjong. It complements some missing history which is not mentioned in other government-compiled records, as it includes the names of Gu Chigwan and Yi Yeongeun, who were omitted from the list of meritorious retainers designated in March 1471. It is regarded as an important cultural material as it is well preserved and provides valuable information on royal messages of the period, including how they were made and bound.
