Description
Buried in this tomb is Sukbin Choe, a royal concubine of King Sukjong (1674 and 1720), the 19th king of the Joseon Dynasty, and the mother of King Yeongjo (1724 and 1776), the 21st king of the Joseon Dynasty. Sukbin Choe was a daughter of Choe Hyo-won, a political power at that time. She died at the age of 49 in the 44th year of the reign of King Sukjong (1718). King Yeongjo had such deep filial piety so he set up a tent near her tomb to mourn her death. Tombstones with epitaphs written by him and monuments were erected around her tomb. Her mortuary tablet was enshrined in Yuksanggung Shrine, which is in the Chilgung shrines where the seven royal concubines are worshipped. There are many stone constructions and t-shaped wooden shrine around her tomb.
