Description

This temple was established during the reign of King Jinpyeong (r. 579-631) of the Silla Kingdom, but all of its original structures were burnt during the Japanese Invasion of Korea in 1592. The present buildings were constructed in 1952. Among the existing ancient stone artifacts is a pagoda allegedly containing the stupa of Buddha, a stone lotus pedestal, a twin tortoise-shaped pedestal, and some flagpole supports. There is also a stele erected during the reign of King Yeongjo (r.1724-1776) to commemorate repairs on the stupa, indicating that the temple remained important until that time.
