Description
The Ash Tree dyes the water blue when its bark is soaked in water. Growing in warm places, it is distributed in Japan, China, Manchuria, and Korea. Though its flowers bloom during April and May, there are no petals. Its brown fruit ripens in September. The ash tree of Mugeon-ri in Paju, whose stalk is shaped like steps, is the only one designated as a Natural Monument among all the Ash Trees. It is about 150 years old, with height of about 15m and girth of approximately 3.29m and its stalk is thick. The Ash Tree used to be an arbor; now, however, it remains in the military shooting range. Since the ash tree of Mugeon-ri, Paju is biologically valuable and has been under the attention and care of the villagers for a long time, it is designated and protected as a Natural Monument.
