Description

The Red Leaf Willow of Deokchon-ri has been called Teorwangbeodeul (hairy red leaf willow) because its leaves and branches have fur. Distributed in Japan, China, and Korea, the tree has wide leaves and is relatively tall compared to other willow trees. The tree is about 200 years old, with height of 14m and girth of 3.6m and it is located along the stream beside Deoksan Elementary School. Villagers use it as a resting place and the tree sprouts leaves at a time in spring, but such depends on their branches. It is presumed that its leaves determine bumper crop or bad crop. Since the red leaf willow of Deokchon-ri, Cheongdo is biologically valuable and has thrived under the attention and care of our ancestors for a long time, it is designated and protected as a Natural Monument.
