Description

Songak is a green vine plant living on rocks or other trees. It has its roots coming out of the stalks and likes dark places. Its leaves are a lustrous dark green, green flowers sprout in October, and its round, dark fruits ripen in May. It grows in the southwestern coast and in the forest of the island in Korea. Songak in Samin-ri takes root under the cliff and grows until it covers the entire cliff. Though it cannot be dated, it is assumed to be at least several hundred years old. Since the songak of Samin-ri, Gochang is large and is near the northernmost area where it can grow, it is designated and protected as a Natural Monument.
