Description

The Korean name of white forsythia (Miseon) means that its fruits are fan-shaped. The shape of the fruits is also similar to the heart symbol. This tree is a rare species, growing only in Korea. It grows to about 1~1.5m, and the tips of its branches droop downward like the golden bell tree. The tree belongs to the same family as the golden bell tree; just like the golden bell tree, its flowers bloom before the leaves come out. The population of white forsythia in Buan is scattered throughout the entire area near Jiksocheon Stream and Baekcheon Stream in Byeonsan. There are lots of the trees in this place, and they are well-preserved. Since white forsythia is the only species in the world, and the natural habitat in Buan is the southernmost area for this tree to survive, the place is designated as a Natural Monument.
