Description

Orijangnim Forest of Jacheon-ri in Yeongcheon was made as a windbreak, countermeasure for flood and for bank protection in the 1500s. At present, 280 trees of 12 species including the oriental cork oak tree are growing in the forest. Its name Orijangnim comes from its length, which is equivalent to 2km. This forest is also called Jacheonsup Forest. Todays, the villagers serve a ceremony for peace on January 15 each year. We can see how fond our ancestors were of the nature and how wisely they used it. It is designated and protected as a Natural Monument.
