Description
Pine Forest of Hadong in Gyeongsangnam-do dates back to 1745 (21st year of the reign of King Yeongjo) during the Joseon Dynasty when 750 trees were planted by Jeon Cheon-sang, the local governor, to block damage from wind and sand coming from the river. The bark of the old pines is cracked in a tortoiseshell pattern, bringing to mind the metal armor worn by generals of the past. In the forest is an archery field called Hasangjeong, where archers train. The Pine Forest of Hadong is Korea’s finest forest of old pine trees, and the beauty of the trees against the white sandy bank and clear water of Seomjingang River makes people stop in their tracks.
