Description
This ginkgo tree standing at the center of Sulji Village has long been regarded as a guardian symbol of the village, along with the zelkova trees on the village’s outer periphery in the four directions. With a girth of 8 meters at chest level, the tree is as big and magnificent as any other ginkgo tree designated a natural monument around the country. Legend has it that the tree wept during times of national crisis. It is also believed to ensure peace and a rich harvest, thus ensuring that even in hard times there are no thieves in the village. The tree provides good shade as well as fruit used in communal projects.
