Description
Bronze Seven-Headed Bell unearthed from Tomb No. 22, Bokcheon-dong Tumuli, Busan was unearthed in the middle of excavation work carried out in 1980 to 1982. This type of relics used for a ritual in the Gojoseon Period includes eight-headed/two-headed ones. And this one has been the first one unearthed among those dating back to the Three-Kingdoms Period. The one in the subject testifies that such a ritual continued until the Gaya Period and thus has a unique value. As one that was used by a supreme leader of Gaya during the 4th/5th Century, its body and bells were made of bronze with its inside empty. A wood handle was fitted into the body. The smoothly processed surface of the object displays an advance in the handcraft skills. The one in the subject displays a unique shape, the like of which cannot be found in this part of the world, and is thought to be a valuable item showing part of a ritual carried out during the Gaya Period and the bronze handcraft skills of the period.
