Description
A set of metal armor unearthed from Tomb No. 38, Bokcheon-dong Tumuli, Busan was unearthed during the fifth excavation survey of the tomb carried out in 1994 and 1995. It dates from the 4th Century. Composed of helmet, neck protector, and armor, this has been the first case of a set of armor unearthed together. As it is clear where it was unearthed and when it dates from, it can serve as a reference point in dating such an object of the Three-Kingdoms Period. The metal armor has decayed seriously, but the other parts have been preserved well and thus provide valuable information. The parts were made long and thin by beating a metal plate. The parts were linked to each other, using a leather string inserted into holes made in them. The traces of repair found here and there also provide information on what the lives of troops were like. The one in the subject is a valuable item that provides information on the Iron Age culture of Gaya and how armor was made at that time.
