Description

This buncheong bottle dates back to the early Joseon Period. As it passes the neck area, the contour of the bottle gradually inflates and reaches its full expansion in the lower body. It then reaches the base and narrows again to give it a stable look. It has height of 31.7 cm, mouth diameter of 8 cm, and base diameter of 9.9 cm. The mouth is spread like a trumpet, and the neck is narrow. There is a set of two or three white inlaid lines throughout the body, with lotus and scroll designs drawn in between these lines. There is a lotus flower drawn on three different places at the center of the body. The lotus flowers are connected to the stems and leaves through the unfolding scrolls. The space in the background is inlaid in white with patterns of raindrop marks. The decoration looks particularly better because the outline of lotus flowers and leaves is inlaid in white, whereas the details in their interior are inlaid in black. Since the ratio of abnormality and design are appropriate, and the combination is well-organized, there is no trace of disorderliness. Because the glaze is not evenly applied, there are a number of tiny bumps and potholes on the surface.
